LEJOG Live Progress
Day 16 LEJOG - Monday 28th September 2020
The day began in Tongue following a lovely meal at the Ben Loyal Hotel which provides excellent hospitality and very good food.
The steep climb out of Tongue was not so welcoming however and was the start of a challenging 60+ miles to our destination. The weather forecast was dire but as it happens we only had a few showers. The wind was strong and gusty but thankfully largely at our backs although there were some hairy moments on the more exposed sections.
Cycling along the northern most coast of the UK was surreal after 15 days in the saddle and emotions were mixed. We knew that the adrenaline would get us there but there was always the chance of a calamity so we were very careful!
We stopped at Dunnet (Dunnet Head is the northern most part of the UK but a seven mile detour which was not undertaken) which should surely be named "Nearly Dunnet"
The last 13 miles was quite pleasant and the sun shone as it had done for mist of our ride. We were very lucky because bad weather would have made the trip quite unpleasant but we had seem some glorious countryside and met some wonderful people.
